DIY Honeycomb Paper Ornaments

This year my Christmas tree was looking BARE. This is my first holiday season in my new home and I wanted some fresh decorations. I decided to create these DIY Honeycomb Paper Ornaments for my tree that I’m obsessed with! After seeing versions of these ornaments at Target, West Elm, McGee & Co., as well as several other popular retailers, I knew I had to try to make some of my own at home with my Cricut machine.

It’s important to know that this project is way easier and faster if you have a Cricut cutting machine. It can also be done if you have a regular computer printer at home, but it does take a little bit more patience.

Supplies:

Step 1: Select and Download Your File

Choose and download the file of the ornament that you would like to make.

The links below will take you to my Etsy shop where you will be able to purchase and download the digital files at the very low price of $0.99. These files can be used over and over to make as many ornaments as you wish!

If you are using a Cricut, you will use the SVG file.

If you are using a printer, you will use the PDF file.

Step 2: Cut the Pieces

CRICUT MACHINE INSTRUCTIONS

Upload to Cricut Design Space

  1. Open Cricut Design Space
  2. Click New Project
  3. Click Upload
  4. Click Upload Image
  5. Click Browse
  6. Locate the SVG File of the ornament you want to make and click Open
  7. Click Upload
  8. Select the uploaded design and click Add to Canvas

Preparing the File to Cut + Draw

  1. In the Layers panel, select each horizontal line
  2. Select Pen from the Operation menu (if not using the pen tool, hide these layers by clicking the eye icon)
  3. Select all layers
  4. Copy and Paste as many as possible to fit in a 12 x 12 space
  5. Select all layers
  6. Click Attach
  7. Click Make It

Cutting + Drawing

  1. Check that Material Type is On Mat and Material Size is 12 in x 12 in (mirror should be turned off)
  2. Click Continue
  3. Connect your Cricut machine
  4. Choose your Base Material
  5. Load your Tools and Material (Pen and Blade Tools)
  6. Press GO on your machine
  7. You will need to cut a total of 60 halves

PRINTER INSTRUCTIONS

If you are using a printer, simple locate the file and print enough for 60 halves. Cut pieces out with scissors.

Step 3: Assemble the Ornament

You have created your own DIY Honeycomb Paper Ornaments!
