If you are looking for a super easy and quick project for around the holidays – this is it! I love these DIY orange slice ornaments and how they bring a pop of color to my Christmas tree. They have such a classic feel and are becoming increasingly popular. With just a few supplies, you can easily create some for your own home this holiday season!
Supplies:
- Oranges
- Sharp Knife
- Cutting Board
- Baking Sheet
- Baking Rack
- Parchment Paper
- Needle
- Cording
- Wood Beads
- Velvet Ribbon
- Scissors
Step 1: Slice Oranges
Very carefully slice your oranges. Try to cut even slices no bigger than a 1/4″ thick.

Step 2: Bake Orange Slices
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, place a baking rack on top of the parchment paper and arrange orange slices over top.
Pat orange slices with a paper towel if necessary.

Bake in the oven at 250 degrees for 2.5-3 hours making sure to pull the orange slices out every 30 minutes to flip.

Your orange slices should end up looking something like this.

Step 3: Turn into an Ornament
Cut a piece of cording (I cut around a 10″ piece and ended up trimming it down).
Thread the cording through a needle.
Insert the needle through the orange slice near the edge.

Pull the cording through the orange slice, but not all the way. Then, pull both ends of the cording through the loop that is created.

Add wood beads and a velvet bow if desired.

Tie a knot on the cording in order to create a loop so that it can hang on your tree.
Trim the cording with scissors if necessary.

You’re done – it’s as easy as that!
I really love how these DIY orange slice ornaments turned out and how the dark green velvet ribbon looks against the orange. They have a classic and timeless feel that sits really well with the rest of my Christmas decor.
I also created garland for my fireplace mantle using dried orange slices, so be sure to check out this blog post if interested: DIY Orange Slice Garland.
